Convict serving life sentence shot by cops while on the run

A native of Haryana service life imprisonment for murder was shot and arrested by the Haridwar police while he was on the run. According to the police, a team of Bahadarabad police was going towards Ranipur Jhal at about 1 AM on Monday.
The team saw two persons approaching and one of these men reportedly fired at the police on seeing the men in uniform approaching. The police also fired in retaliation. One of the men used the darkness and the bushes to escape while the other was shot in the leg. The police approached the injured man and found a country-made firearm and a bullet from the bushes near the injured man.
The injured man identified himself as Vinod Rajpur alias Vicki, a native of Rohtak district in Haryana. According to the police, Rajpur said that during 2007, a man named Naseeb had a rivalry with him and his brothers. Rajput and others had shot him dead in 2007. The accused was in Rohtak jail and in 2023, he was granted a 21-day parole to take care of his parents. However, he went on the run after securing parole. He had been shifting his location frequently while on the run. Some days ago, he had reached Haridwar and had been staying at Daulatpur while concealing his identity.
The police said that Rajput had told them that he was sentenced to life imprisonment and had come to Haridwar in order to evade arrest. The police said that they also found two forged identification cards from Rajput.
