72 encroachments demolished by authorities on Thursday
In pursuance of orders of the Uttarakhand high court, the authorities continued the anti-encroachment drive in parts of Dehradun on Thursday. According to information provided by the official sources, a total of 72 encroachments were demolished and reverification of demarcation of 450 encroachments was done. In addition to this, notices were also issued against the persons concerned in the case of 31 parking places found to have been encroaching on public space.
Personnel of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), Public Works Department, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), police and the district administration conducted the anti-encroachment drive in Gandhi Road and other areas of the city on Thursday. While the encroachments were being removed from Gandhi Road, the public had to face inconvenience due to exacerbated traffic congestion on the already busy road.
It is pertinent to mention here that following the directions of the high court, the authorities had undertaken an anti-encroachment campaign in Dehradun to clear footpaths, roads, streets and other public places of encroachments. Recently, it had come to light that in various places from where the encroachments had been removed earlier, people had encroached again. Taking cognisance of this, the authorities once again started conducting the anti-encroachment drive in the provisional state capital as per the orders of the high court.
