USCW asks police to take strict action in Vinita Bhandari case

The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal has directed the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action in the case of Vinita Bhandari’s death. Kandwal informed that she has been in regular communication with the police authorities after the partially burnt body of 21-year-old Vinita Bhandari who had been missing since December 4, was discovered in a forest area in Rishikesh, Dehradun district. After becoming aware of the matter, she asked for the details of the case from Muni Ki Reti police station house officer Ritesh Shah, including any information on the cause of Bhandari’s death. She has also directed the investigation of Bhandari’s phone records, she added.

She further informed that following her direction, a report detailing the progress made by the police in the case has been submitted to the commission. The report stated that on December 4, Vinita Bhandari was observed walking towards Natraj Chowk via HNB Marg Dhalwala, carrying a polythene bag in her right hand. It was also mentioned that the deceased’s last phone call was made to Arjun Rawat, who is currently being questioned by the police. The investigation is being conducted based on all the available facts and evidence, she said. Additionally, she informed that, upon being informed about the case, she instructed the senior superintendent of police of Tehri Navneet Singh to thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate and stringent actions.
