5 structures sealed in Jyotirmath’s disaster- affected areas

Acting tough against construction activities in the disaster-affected areas of Jyotirmath town, the Chamoli district administration teams have sealed five buildings being constructed in violation of the provisions of the Disaster Management Act.
The district administration sources said that they had been receiving complaints for some time about construction work being carried out secretly and illegally in the disaster- affected areas. In response to these complaints, the administration team raided some under-construction buildings in Gandhinagar ward, Ravi Gram, Singhdhar and near Gandhi Maidan in Upper Bazaar. They were later sealed.
Furthermore, another such violation came to the notice of the administration from lManohar Bagh ward of the town where a builder was allegedly constructing a house costing approximately Rs one crore. Acting on the complaints from local residents, the administration immediately halted the work.
The deputy district magistrate, Chandrashekhar Vashishtha said that all new construction works have been totally banned in Jyotirmath town in view of its being proneness to land subsidence. He warned that if anyone is found carrying out construction work even after this, strict legal action would be taken against them under the Disaster Management Act.
