PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

A BJP leader was shot dead late on Monday in the Manduwala area of Premnagar, Dehradun. A special team has been formed to investigate the case, the Dehradun superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar said. He informed that two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on Rohit Negi, a 22-year-old former BJP Mandal president and fled the scene. Negi’s friends took him to Graphic Era Hospital in Jhajhra, where doctors declared him dead. An FIR has been registered at Premnagar police station based on a complaint by the deceased’s friend Abhishek Barthwal, a resident of Tilwari, Selaqui. According to Kumar, Barthwal stated that he and his friends were in a car at Peepal Chowk in Manduwala when two men on a motorcycle approached and fired at them from the front. The bullet struck Negi in the neck. Kumar said that the preliminary investigation suggests that one of Negi’s friends had a female acquaintance who was also known to the accused. On the night of the incident, Negi was at a friend’s house in Nayagaon with the female acquaintance and other friends. During that time, the woman received a call from the accused, leading to an argument with her and Negi. Police believe the shooting may have occurred in the aftermath of that argument, he said. The SP informed that police are checking all CCTV footage of the area and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and surveillance teams are also working to gather evidence. Kumar said that the police are investigating all possible angles related to the incident and are searching for the accused.
