2-day workshop on Bio Informatics starts at KU

A two-day academic outreach virtual workshop on the topic of Introduction to Bio Informatics organised by the department of Botany, DSB campus, Kumaun University and Research and Development Cell, Gargi College, Delhi University, commenced. Earlier, speaking at the workshop, the principal, Gargi College, Prof Sangeeta Bhatia had said that this along with promoting research would give them an opportunity to know more about the structure of nature through using new technology.

Addressing the same, the head of the department, KU, Prof Lalit Tiwari said that the ATGC’s nucleic acid and amino acid explain the mystery of life, adding that the workshop would provide information to the participants about connecting traditional biology with modern computer based tools, leading to an enhanced plant variety and agriculture. “Bioinformatics has now become an important part of plant sciences through which we can know the genes from the plant genome which help in stress tolerance growth, ensuring that agriculture of crop variety is done for sustainable development,” he added.

A team from the Union Ministry of Biotechnology is also attending the workshop.
