2 cops knifed in gamblers’ scuffle, 3 arrested

In a purported episode of gambling near Roshanabad court which resulted in injury to two policemen on Sunday night, three people have been arrested by the police. While the probe is on, the police headquarters have ordered action against two police personnel. It is being said that the cops were trying to settle the matter between gamblers when they were attacked with knives. However some observers aver that khaki has been tainted in the past and that the cops were involved in gambling too.

The district police have received orders to suspend SIIDCUL police station and post in charge in the matter.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Haridwar senior superintendent of police Janmejay Khanduri said, “During interrogation it was found that in a dhaba at the backside of district courts in Roshanabad, seven people were playing cards including two cops who were not on duty on Sunday night. They were in plain clothes. A scuffle took place between two players. One of them left the scene and came back with three more people who had knives. They attacked one person and when our cops tried to intervene, they received knife wounds. We have arrested the three accused.”

The condition of police constable Arun Kotnala admitted to Himalayan Institute hospital is said to be serious. He received three knife stabs in his stomach while the other cop Jitendra is said to be out of danger. Strict action has been ordered by the police headquarters in the case.
