The Valley of Flowers in Chamoli district-a UNESCO World Heritage site known world-wide for its breath-taking alpine meadows and benumbing wealth of floral variety- is bustling with domestic and foreign tourists these days.

Since it reopened on June 1, a total of 1,812 tourists have arrived here to enjoy nature blooming in her full glory.  Moreover, to add to the tourists’ enjoyment, the process of blooming of flowers has already started with the valley now experiencing rain.

The Nanda Devi National Park’s SDO, Suman said that while 1794 Indian tourists have visited the valley, the number of foreign tourists till date is 18. “We expect a further surge in tourist footfalls in July and August as these two months mark the optimal blooming period,” he added.

Notably, this period coincides with the peak of the monsoon season. As the rains nourish the valley the vibrant colours of 500 plus flowers come into full bloom.

Suman further said that this time it had started raining in June, resulting in early blooming of many flowers, adding to the tourists’ delight amidst the flowery abundance.
