14 differently abled girls find shelter after DM’s high level inquiry

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Fourteen differently abled girls found a new home after the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal ordered a high level inquiry into organisations that refused admission to them. Bansal informed that14 orphaned and differently abled girls who were living in the Satya Sai Ashram, is closing due to financial and operational issues. Several organisations, who specially work to provide care and shelter to such children, turned them away instead of extending help.

The DM stated that most of these institutions that receive funding for their care openly declined to provide refuge, disregarding their responsibilities toward vulnerable children. This forced the administration to step in directly and find a solution, he said. Bansal then intervened with his team, conducting a thorough search for a safe and appropriate place for the children. He claimed that after repeated refusals by many organisations, the administration has now successfully shifted the children to Rafael Home. The new institution will provide food, education, health care and a chance for them to grow up in a nurturing environment, he added.

The DM said that registration of such organisations must come with responsibilities and not just funding. He stated that organisations cannot exploit children under the guise of service, adding that violations will bring strong action. The administration has now placed a special team to oversee compliance with regulations and to make sure the children’s rights are fully secured.

The DM said that the administration has made it clear to all organisations concerned that this is not a formality and every institution must follow the regulations or face penalties and lose their registration. Bansal stressed that children’s welfare cannot be compromised under any circumstance.
