118th All India Farmers Fair concludes at GBPUAT:  VC announces 5-day event

The four-day 118th All India Farmers Fair and Agricultural Industry Exhibition of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, concluded on Monday with the distribution of prizes.  Addressing the closing ceremony, the vice-chancellor of the university, Manmohan Singh Chauhan   announced that the upcoming farmers’ fair would be held for five days instead of the present four.

He said that the Kisan Mela is not merely a platform for technology demonstrations but also a medium for dialogue and innovation between farmers, scientists, and industry. “The university is committed to increasing farmers’ income, sustainable agricultural development and rural prosperity,” he said. He also urged the farmers to adopt modern technologies alongside traditional farming, paying special attention to crop diversification, climate-smart agriculture and value addition.

Providing detailed information about the fair, the director of Extension Education of the university, Jitendra Kwatra said that 575 stalls had been set up at the fair, selling seeds worth Rs 1.45 crore and approximately 37,800 farmers (registered and unregistered)  had visited the fair. First, second and third prizes were also awarded to the winners of various competitions held at the fair.
