The police arrested three men from Haridwar on Tuesday who allegedly stole a Vikram from Rishikesh to convert it into a loader vehicle. The police said that the complainant Motilal Singh stated in his written complaint at Rishikesh police station that his Vikram, which was parked along with several others in the area, was stolen on October 23.

After filing a report against the unknown accused, teams were formed to gather evidence. The police analysed CCTV footage of 80 cameras installed near the incident site. Besides this, the police activated the informers’ system and inquired about the old and recently released criminals who have been involved in such cases in the past. The police also conducted a checking campaign of vehicles in different parts of the city.

On the basis of the evidence, the police got to know on Tuesday that the Vikram stolen from Rishikesh is parked at a house of a man named Dilshad at Bhukkanpur village in Haridwar. The police reached the village and arrested three accused named Shahid (24), Dilshad (26) and Mursaleen (28) from the same house. The police found out that the thieves had dismantled Vikram from the front in order to convert it into a loader vehicle.

The accused Shahid and Mursaleen stated during the questioning that Dilshad had told them that he needed a loader vehicle and he could convert a Vikram into one and offered them Rs 2,000 each to steal a vehicle. The police said that since Shahid runs Vikram on Haridwar-Rishikesh routes, he knew that many Vikrams are parked on roadside areas in Rishikesh at night. Considering this, they stole a Vikram using another key and brought it to Dilshad’s home in Haridwar, as per the police. The police said that all three accused belong to Haridwar. The police are looking for the arrested accused’s criminal history and will be soon presented before the court.
