1.50 lakh migrants back in Uttarakhand, more expected in coming days
Domestic flights to resume from May 25 with precautions
Even as the inbound and outbound movement of migrants continues, domestic flight operations are slated to resume from May 25. Currently, seven flights are slated to operate to and from Uttarakhand with one-third capacity. Stating this, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) additional chief executive officer Ridhim Agarwal said that clear instructions have been received that anyone arriving from a Red zone state will be institutionally quarantined on arrival in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, 212 cases of home quarantine violation have been lodged in the state so far.
Addressing the media, she said that about 2.45 lakh persons have registered for returning to Uttarakhand. Out of these, about 1.50 lakh have returned in buses, trains and private vehicles permitted by the government. The maximum number of people have returned from Delhi- about 55,000 while about 24,000 each have returned from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and 9,000 each from Punjab and Chandigarh. “A train is slated to depart from Thiruvananthpuram on Saturday night and arrive in Haridwar on Sunday. Similarly, a train from Chennai is also proposed to bring back migrants. The train sent earlier from Uttarakhand to West Bengal is also proposed to return with migrants in the coming days. Meanwhile, Nepal has informed that on May 29-30 about 600 people will be returning to India via Banbasa which include 25 Uttarakhand residents. When it comes to outbound movement of migrants, about 40,000 of the 47,000 who had registered have gone back. These include 17,000 to Uttar Pradesh, 10,000 to Bihar and about 2,500 each to Jammu and Delhi. The State has also sought operation of special trains from Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar to transport migrants back to Bihar. About 200 Uttarakhandis have returned to India from various foreign nations. Of these, three have completed their institutional quarantine in Delhi and returned to the state while 197 are under quarantine in Delhi,” said Agarwal.
Regarding the resumption of domestic flights, she said that presently seven flights are slated to operate from the state on the date. All the flights will operate at one-third capacity with strict observance of standard operating procedures and various directions of agencies concerned and the government. “Passengers are required to go to the airport only after online or tele check-in. The pre-rentals and taxis operating to and from the airport will be issued permits by the district administration in a couple of days to transport passengers. Anyone arriving by air from a Red zone state will be put under institutional quarantine,” she stressed.
Referring to some people violating home quarantine mandatory for those returning to the state, Agarwal said that 212 cases had been lodged in the state so far for violation of home quarantine. She warned that an attempt to murder case also be registered against any person who ends up infecting anyone else after violating home quarantine.
