Yard remodelling to be completed within time limit
The yard remodelling work in Dehradun railway station is going on in full swing. During an inspection of the ongoing construction work on Sunday evening, Chief Administration Officer (Construction) Anil Kumar Lahoti said that the work will be completed within the time limit by February 7, 2020. He further said that the main idea is to lay the tracks in such a way that they are free from each other. Earlier the tracks formation was crossing over one another which are not secure from safety point of view.
Dehradun railway station director Ganesh Chandra Thakur said that the heritage structure of the railway station has been kept intact, only the doors and windows were newly fitted as the old ones were not sustainable anymore. In addition to that 25 additional CCTV cameras are proposed to be installed. The railway station already has 19 CCTV cameras installed.
He further said that platform number one will no longer be used as a halting platform for passenger trains. This will be one of the major changes at the railway station after the completion of this yard remodelling. He explained that as the platform is only equipped to hold a train with 11 coaches and the trains coming to Dehradun will be of 17 to 18 coaches, hence it won’t be practical for platform number one to be used. In future the platform will be used to keep old or extra coaches.
It is pertinent to mention here that total nine lines are being laid at Dehradun railway station. Platform number three and five are being newly constructed. Platform number two will be re-numbered and will become platform number one and platform number three will become platform number two. Platform number four will remain the same.
It is also pertinent to mention here that for the modernisation of Dehradun railway station work will be conducted by Railway Development Board with the help of Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority.
