Workers not getting their legal rights for years: Social outfit
A Dehradun-based social organisation- Jan Hastakshep- has alleged that many of the day labourers are finding it difficult to get their due legal rights for years. They further said that despite repeatedly meeting the officers concerned on the matter, the workers’ grievance has remained unaddressed. .
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the members of the organisation stated that they had sent a letter to the President on the issue in October 2018. “The letter dwelt on the problem being faced by over 70 labourers of pending applications and thousands of pending registration of the labourers. However, we have received no answer to the letter so far,” said a member of the organisation.
The activists further alleged that the welfare schemes being launched both by the Centre and the state government, meant to promote the interests of such workers, are falling flat. They said that the government has totally failed to execute the existing schemes for the good of the workers.
Earlier, the labourers accompanied by the activists met the deputy labour commissioner Anil Petwal. The officer is learnt to have assured the delegation that the matters raised by them would be adequately looked into and necessary steps would be taken to have the problems resolved soon.
