Woman asks SCPCR to ensure fair probe against police
The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi recently received a complaint letter from an alleged victim’s mother who claimed that her son had been beaten and tortured by a senior police officer and some police personnel in Bindal Police Chowki recently. The woman has stated that she wants the commission to ensure justice for her son.
According to the complainant, a senior police officer had called her son to Bindal Chowki stating that he wanted to meet him to get some information about his own daughter. Her son expressed his wish to bring his father along with him but the officer asked him to come alone, stated the complainant. According to the mother, her son took one of his friends with him to the police Chowki. Soon, her son was taken to a locked room whereas his friend was made to sit outside with other police personnel, stated the complainant.
The complainant stated that her son was physically tortured and assaulted in the locked room by the police. Fearing that the investigation might get affected due to certain reasons, the complainant asked Negi to ensure the unbiased investigation in this matter. Taking cognisance of this complaint, Negi has written a letter to the deputy inspector general who heads the police in Dehradun district, stating that since the police are already investigating the matter, she wants police to submit the report of the investigation within one week to the commission.
