Speaker Premchand Agarwal attended the meeting as representative of India region of CPA.
The members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) discussed the situation of Covid-19 pandemic in their respective countries in its meeting executive held on Friday. The speaker of Uttarakhand assembly Premchand Agarwal attended the virtual meeting as representative of India region of CPA.
The chairperson of the executive council of CPA and Member of Parliament (MP) of Cameroon, Amelia Lefaka, deputy chairperson John Aajka from Australia, the treasurer of the association, S Scunder, member of House of Commons of Canada Anthony Rota and others participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, it was decided to appoint Stefan Twig as eighth general secretary of the CPA.
Informing about the meeting Agarwal said that the action plan of the executive councils meeting held in 2019 was endorsed by the CPA. The annual report of the CPA and the review report of the works were also tabled in the meeting. The reports of sub committees were also presented before the CPA. Agarwal informed that the CPA has three regional representatives from India region. The Speaker of Assam assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami, Member of Parliament (MP) Anurag Sharma and Premchand Agarwal are these three members.
Agarwal further informed that the CPA has extended his tenure till next year.
In the meeting it was proposed to defer the 65th conference of CPA till August 2021. This conference is scheduled to be held between January 12 to 18 next year in Canada.
In the meeting the representatives of India, Africa, Asia, Australia, British islands, Caribbean, America and Atlantic regions took part.
