Use of plastic items to be prohibited in Govt offices from Oct 2
Dehradun district magistrate C Ravishankar informed officials of the departments concerned that from October 2, the use of plastic in the form of water bottles or any other way will be prohibited in government offices. He said that if during inspection it is found that any department is not following the orders, strict action will be taken against the head of the department concerned.
During a meeting held regarding the preparations for October 2 at the DM office on Wednesday, Ravishankar deputed the chief medical officer to conduct blood test of inmates in jail. He has also nominated municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey as the nodal officer for sanitation drives during the programme. To the district excise officer he gave strict instructions to ensure that no country liquor or Indian Made Foreign liquor (IMFL) should get distributed during the day observed as Gandhi Jayanti.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier also the state’s chief secretary had issued instructions prohibiting the use of single use plastic in government offices. He had also prohibited the use of the plastic items during the programmes that were conducted by government departments. However, the instructions were not formally obeyed by the departments.
