The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) has received the Great Place To Work (GPTW) certification from the Great Place to Work Institute, San Francisco, USA. This institute is the global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. It recognises outstanding workplace cultures through its diligent and meticulously designed certification programs.
Chairman of Hydrocarbon Education Research Society, the promoting body of UPES, Sharad Mehra shared that the university has over the years adopted the philosophy of “people first” while also making concerted efforts to incorporate some carefully selected global best practices in the organisation which now also form the five core values of UPES — respect, trust, inclusivity, innovation and passion.
The university’s vice chancellor Deependra Jha, while sharing the Indian scenario disclosed that 3000 organisations had applied for “GPTW-2019” out of which only 350 qualified for this certification. UPES is the first and only university in India to have been awarded this certification, he said.
UPES HR director Monika Jain said that every year, more than 10,000 organisations from over 58 countries apply to Great Place to Work Institute for this certification but less than 10 per cent are able to qualify. Great Place to Work Institute’s methodology has been recognised as rigorous and objective oriented and is considered as the gold standard for defining great workplaces across business, academia and government organisations.
