The newly-elected and first woman chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, Darvesh Singh Yadav, was shot dead under mysterious circumstances by a long-time acquaintance in Agra, who also shot himself on his temple to end his life.
Both injured were rushed to a hospital where Yadav was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the assailant was reported in a critical condition.
As per reports, Darvesh Singh Yadav was declared joint winner to the post of UP Bar Council chairperson. On Wednesday, she attended a felicitation function at the Civil Court premises in Agra and later went to the chamber of lawyer Arvind Kumar Mishra.
While they were chatting, another lawyer, Manish Sharma, entered the chamber and fired three shots at Yadav and she collapsed on the chair. Later, Sharma then tried to end his life by shooting himself from his licensed revolver.
Yadav was rushed to a hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead. Sharma was also admitted to a private hospital with bullet injuries.
ADG (Agra Zone) Ajay Anand along with senior officials rushed to the spot to probe the matter. Initial enquiry revealed that the victim and the assailant had a heated argument over some issue before the felicitation function but the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained.
Last Sunday, Darvesh Singh Yadav along with Harishanker Singh of Varanasi were jointly elected chairpersons of UP Bar Council in Prayagraj as both polled 12 votes each. As per agreement, Yadav was given the post for the first six months while Singh was take over for the next six months.
