Union accuses corrupt officials of influencing decisions
Indicating the existence of corruption in the State Transport Department, the president of Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal said that the officials of the department have gone against the laws of the Central and State Government to benefit the operators of Vikrams and Tata Magic cabs in the city. Dandriyal said that he recently sent a letter to the head of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) stating how the officials in the department mislead the senior officials for their own advantage. He stated that under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Uttarakhand Motor Vehicle Rules 2011, a vehicle for 12 passengers besides a driver seat cannot be given a stage carriage permit. However, the Tata Magic cabs were permitted the stage carriage permits in the year 2017 following which the Vikram operators also demanded the same permit but in a RTA meeting in February 2019, the RTO DC Pathoi had clearly stated that it was wrong of the previous officials to grant the stage carriage permit to such cabs. Therefore, Pathoi stated that it would be wrong to grant these permits to the Vikram operators too, added Dandriyal. However, nothing has been done to revoke those permits so far, added Dandriyal.
He said that taking a wrong decision against the set rules of the State and the Central Government implies something fishy in the department.
Moreover, he also said that a Vikram is meant to be in the combination of yellow and black colour as per the rules but they were painted blue like the city buses against the rules. “We are highlighting these issues because we want the department to rectify all the wrong decisions made in the past. We will commence the operation of the city buses only when the transport department will ensure the proper operation of Vikrams and other public vehicles in the city,” he said.
