On the occasion of the World Women’s Day observed on Friday, the secretary to the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and secretary Power, Uttarakhand, Radhika Jha said that the women officers are now holding a number of important posts in Uttarakhand. Addressing a programme on ‘Women in leadership roles breaking the glass ceiling: opportunities and challenges’ hosted to mark the day, Jha said that the stereotypical image has changed in the world. “India is also witnessing changes. This is a good sign,” she said.
She further said “It is important to celebrate ourselves. We, the women, have evolved over the years. We might still be talking of female foeticide, girl and child struggles. But now things have changed and the stories are changing. We are not behind anyone and so we do not have to defeat everyone. We do not have to be in the race as each one of us has space.”
Speaking of her experiences and how to create a difference, she said, “We always see that women are compared with men. It is very important that we are not compared with anyone as we all are individuals and we are different. Also, we all should understand that there is no point in getting into a rat race. The horizon is very big and hence it is important that we think big and evolve adequately to achieve what we want.”
Appreciating the efforts of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in the realm of women empowerment, she said that they are exemplary leaders and have given a lot of prominence to the women officers. “Everyone must define their own success. There is a need to introspect. Whatever you wish to pursue you must pursue. Women should work as a team and it must be a positive team. Thanks to the efforts of the PM and the CM, more and more women officers are holding prime positions in the state. The stereotype that the women are meant for some specific posts is ending. Things are changing apace and the women are holding important posts both in the private sector as well as in the Government sector.”
