U’khand becomes 2nd State to provide 10% EWS reservation
After the Centre and Gujarat, Uttarakhand has become the second state in India to implement 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker persons of the general category. The additional chief secretary, personnel and vigilance, Radha Raturi informed that through constitutional amendment, the government of India facilitated 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker persons belonging to the general category. Following this the Uttarakhand government implemented the ordinance- Uttarakhand Public Service (Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections) from February 5, 2019. This is good news for the educated unemployed youth of the state as this will enable economically weaker sections to avail the benefit of reservation.
Raturi further informed that this ordinance has been sent to all the departments, Uttarakhand Public Service Commission and the Subordinate Service Selection Commission so that the necessary requisition and notice can be issued in order to facilitate provision of employment to as many unemployed youth as possible.
Under this system, the economically weaker sections of the state will be eligible for reservation in public services and posts provided they are not part of the categories provided already existing reservation for scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and socially and educationally backward sections. Such persons from economically weaker sections with total annual income of less than Rs eight lakh from all sources in a family will be eligible for the 10 per cent reservation facility. All sources of income in a family would include income generated through salary, agriculture, business, profession and other sources. The said income would be for the financial year previous to the year in which the beneficiary submits application.
