With many private schools reopening from Tuesday, district police will be facing a problem to keep the smooth operation of traffic. In order to ensure it especially during school hours, district police have spoken with the school administration of Saint Joseph’s Academy on Subhash Road which is one of the key places for traffic related issues, regarding the parking space inside the school premises, to which SJA has agreed to let two-wheelers park inside their campus. This will not only resolve the issue of parking at Subhash Road, but will also provide relief to the parents of students and other citizens who have to face traffic congestions on daily basis.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti said, “The main concern during the school hours is Subhash Road area. We have spoken with the school authorities of SJA to let two-wheelers inside their campus, to which they have agreed. For four wheelers we will make one lane on the road particularly when the school opens and closes. The vehicles which will come early will be parked there, rest of the vehicles will be parked at the parking area near secretariat. This will likely be implemented from Tuesday as the school re-opens.”
Citizens face congestion on city roads
People of Dehradun once again had to go through exacerbated traffic congestion on the city roads on Monday. The citizens faced traffic congestions on main junctions in the city especially at Doon Hospital Chowk and Arhat Bazaar.
Regarding the traffic congestion near Doon Hospital Chowk, a commuter said, “Even with three traffic police personnel at the palce, they are unable to maintain smooth flow of traffic here. These personnel do not even have proper coordination among themselves.”
Another commuter, who took the route from Mohini Road because of the traffic jam at Araghar Chowk said, “During school hours it is foolish to go from this route. Even with such congested road there is no police personnel deployed near the school to take care of the traffic.”
