Two inter-state gang members arrested by Doon police
District police arrested two members of an inter-state gang which had broken into an ATM, while three others are absconding. They have also recovered Rs 3,20,000 and and a car that was used to commit the crime reported on October 28 in Rajpur police station.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amin (20), resident of Mathura and Aftab Khan (20), resident of Haryana while the accused absconding are Mohammad Hashim, Shuakat and Talim, all three from Haryana.
Addressing media on Friday, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi said, they received information that an ATM near DIT College was broken into by unknown people. Upon reaching at the crime scene, prima facie police suspected that a gas cutter was used to cut open the ATM. On the basis of this intelligence and the evidences recovered by forensic teams and Special Operations Group, different teams were formed.
Primarily, the teams checked all the CCTV footage and collected information about other such crimes in other states as well. A suspicious car was marked during the probe. In a review meeting with SSP it was found that a car meeting the description of the suspicious car in the case was stopped at Asharodi check-post. As the number plate and driving license of the driver checked out they let the car pass, but because they were not carrying registration certificate of the car with them, the police personnel clicked a photograph of the car.
Upon collecting more information about the car, it was found that on the day of the crime, the car was inside the district. When the driving license showed by them was verified physically, police reached the residence of Akram. It was found that Akram himself was not present in Dehradun that night, but his brother had taken the car out with his friends. On the basis of that information gathered by police sources, the accused were then arrested from Mathura when they were going to meet the other gang members in Haryana.
