Some members of the business fraternity in Haridwar staged a demonstration and begged for alms from the public. The demonstration was held in support of their demand for a relief package from the state government.
Leading the protest Sanjay Triwal said that due to work on the railway line, the movement of trains to Haridwar was stopped in 2019. A few trains started operating in January this year but the Covid-19 pandemic occurred a few months later. Triwal said that the trade and business in Haridwar has suffered greatly. The businessmen are in such dire straits that many of them are unable to pay even the water and electricity bills for their shops because there is no sale. Considering this, the business fraternity is demanding a relief package from the government.
