Thousands rejoice at Bhoomi Pujan, some still question
On the occasion of Bhoomi Pujan for the Ram temple at Ayodhya, thousands of people across the state rejoiced though some questioned different aspects of the development.
The ceremony in Ayodhya elicited celebrations in various parts of Uttarakhand. About 11,000 Diyas were lit at Har ki Paidi in Haridwar. Various Ashrams and shrines were also illuminated on the occasion.
Many opined that the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is not important just for the devotees but also for the whole country. “Thousands of labourers got unemployed during the lockdown period but the inauguration of the construction of this temple will provide work to several labourers. Also, the Ram temple will also be great for the tourists and devotees of lord Rama from across the country and worldwide. I support this decision and I am optimistic that it will bring more prosperity and wealth to our country once the construction of the temple is completed,” said a teacher from Roorkee, Geeta Negi.
However, there are some who have doubts and questions on the issue. “It is clearly to distract the public from all the mess the BJP led Central Government has made since last year. If it would have been just about the devotion, the government could have made the Bhoomi Pujan event low key but the government publicised it and built so much hype around this event that the whole country is organising events, preparing sweets and distributing them which is not safe considering the existing potential threat of Covid-19 contagion in India,” said Farheen Ansari, a local school teacher. Besides this, some opined that the construction of Ram temple where once the disputed structure of Babri Masjid existed is wrong. “I do not have any problem with the construction of the temple but I think it is wrong to construct a temple over the ruins of a mosque that existed there before,” said Mussoorie Road resident, Dewas Chauhan.
