Target of collecting Rs 25 crore will be met, say MCD officers
Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officers said that the target of collecting tax to the tune of Rs 25 crore would be achieved much before the deadline expires. They further said that the collection of the tax has gained further momentum after they had started organising tax collection camps in different parts of the city.
“The target of collecting Rs 18 crore set for last year was met. This year, the target was raised to Rs 25 crore and out of which nearly Rs 20 crore has been collected so far. The tax collection camps which are being organized would continue till March 15,” said a civic body officer.
However, the observers sounded doubtful over whether the target would be achieved on time. Besides, they cast question over the civic body still fighting shy of collecting service tax from the government buildings.
The municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “We are confident that our team would achieve the target on time. Rupees 25 crore is our target and Rs 20 crore has been collected by us till mid- March.”
Quizzed over taking due service charges from the government buildings, he said, “No amount has been received from these buildings so far. Steps to collect service charges from these buildings would be taken soon.”
