The T-20 series being played in Dehradun is very significant as the BCCI and ICC have recognised the first international cricket stadium in the State. Stating this, the Indian Olympic Association secretary general Rajiv Mehta said that in the future, this ground would also host IPL and international cricket matches. The construction of this stadium had begun in 2014 and was completed at a cost of Rs 250 crore. Talking to media persons here, he also expressed disappointment at delay in formation of Uttarakhand cricket association on the one State one unit principle. He said that there are five cricket associations in the State with a tussle on among them for dominance. The Government provides Rs 50 crore to recognised cricket associations and with this in mind, five such associations have been formed in the state with the issue also reaching the high court.
Stating that it is unfortunate that a cricket association on the principle of one state one unit has not been formed 18 years after creation of Uttarakhand, he said that had it been formed, the crickets of the state would not have had to look up to other states to progress in the sport.
