The three accused police men in the case which saw seizure of cash from a property dealer under the pretext of checks and seizures for enforcing model code of conduct in Dehradun were found absent from police line during the counting on Saturday. Soon after that Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) handed over the investigation regarding their absence to the Dalanwala Circle Officer (CO) Jaya Baluni. As per the sources, all three accused have returned, though Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti said that she hadn’t received any written confirmation.
She said, “Departmental procedure for an inquiry is going on. I have not yet received any written information about them returning.”
It is pertinent to mention here that this high profile case was handed over to the Special Task Force (STF) on Friday. The STF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ridhim Aggarwal on Monday informed that the three accused police men were scheduled for an interrogation by STF, however it didn’t happen. She said, “As of now we are following the money trail, we are not trying to recover it. The amount that was in that bag has not been specified by the complainant.”
She further added, “District police handed some of the CCTV footage, based on which our team retraced the actions on the said night and collected other CCTV footage too. Consulting these footage it has been established that some transaction happened that night. However, the investigation is still going on.”
When asked about rumours that are linking the looted money to a politician in Uttarakhand, she said “That is probably because the incident happened few days before the polling.”
On allegations of the authorities trying to ‘settle’ the case she said that if the intention was so the case would not have been handed over to the STF for investigation. “We are interrogating everyone who was involved in any way with the incident. As this case is related with the police itself, we will try to solve this case as soon as possible,”she added.
