STUDENTS’ UNREST ON AT NIVH DESPITE TRANSFER OF DIRECTOR
Saturday, 25 August 2018 | PNS | Dehradun–
In the hyped event of the National Institute of the Visually Handicapped (NIVH), the former director of the institute Anuradha Dalmiya has been given transfer order to Empowerment of Person With Visual Disability (EPVD) Aurangabad. The principal and vice-principal of the institute have also been removed from their positions. Meanwhile, this was unable to do any good to the protest held by the students as the demonstration has reached its ninth day on Friday. The student closed all the offices in the institute and did not let any staff enter the campus.
The present additional charge of the director of NIVH has been given to KVS Rao who is also the member of the Central Government team. The principal of the model school Kamal Singh Jagi has been removed from his position while Geetika Mathur (Dispensary Doctor) has been given additional charge of the principal. The vice-principal Anushiya Sharma has also been changed while Amit Sharma, a teacher in the institute, has given additional charges of vice-principal.
To end the dragging class boycott stir of the students, the additional director NIVH KVS Rao held a meeting with the students on Friday. After the meeting, he talked to the media and said that the students are clinging to the stir despite the fact that steps have been taken to meet their demands. “The students are coming up with new demands daily. The continuing protest has affected the functioning of the institute. The students are not able to fill the forms of B.ED, M.ED for special education for visual impairment. Also, the exam dates have also been postponed. We are also calling the parents of the students in 10 days.”
Unfazed by everything, the students boycotted classes and staged demonstration on Friday too. Defending their resolve to continue the stir, they said that their 30–point demand has remained unaddressed. The officers are coming and going and no deadline is being fixed vis-a-vis their demands, they said. They, further, said that the former director NIVH has been transferred to another place with the same position, which is a kind of promotion.
They stated that they are yet to be provided with the hard copy of the FIR filed against the accused teacher Suchit Narang.
