In a joint move by Election Literacy Club formed of students of SMJN post graduate college and HEC college of Haridwar, the students gathered near the clock tower at Har ki Paidi to raise awareness on the election. As per the directives of election commission officials of the state of Uttarakhand, to raise awareness among the voters, a SVEEP song and street plays by students were showcased.
A human chain was also formed by the students. State Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) coordinator Rakhi, Vandana Thaledi and main SVEEP advisor RD Sharma monitored the awareness event. Speaking to this correspondent, the principal of SMJN college, SK Batra who is in the role of nodal officer of the awareness programme said, “Through this event at Har ki Paidi, the message of voting in the Lok Sabha elections would spread wide.”
Referring to the benefits of voting and its importance, the president of Ganga Mahasabha, Pradeep Jha said that election was festival of democracy in which one had the right to choose or reject the governing bodies.
Notably, the song for SVEEP programme in Haridwar has been sung by district magistrate of Haridwar. About 70 students participated in the programme held here to raise public awareness. The students of HEC college also presented a street play.
