Dehradun might experience thunder cloud development and light rain while a number of districts of Uttarakhand might record heavy snowfall on Sunday, according to the regional meteorological department. In a yellow alert issued on Saturday, the centre said that the higher reaches of several districts, including Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh, are most likely to experience heavy snowfall on the day. Besides, there might be thunder cloud development and light rain in several areas of Dehradun, as per the weather forecast.
The Met department officers further said that the snowy/rain spell would continue for some more days in the hills of the State.
As per the weather forecast, the sky would be partly to generally cloudy across the State on Sunday with the likelihood of rain and snow in the hills, in particular. The Met department further said that the maximum temperature in Dehradun would dip by a few notches in Dehradun if it rains while the minimum might rise up a little. The sky would be partly to generally cloudy here on the day.
The mercury in Dehradun settled at 5.8 degree Celsius- normal-while the maximum hovered around 22.6 degree Celsius on Saturday. In other places of the State, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 22.6 degree Celsius-three degrees above the normal-and 4.2 degree Celsius-two notches below the normal-respectively in Pantnagar on the day while at Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 10.4 degree Celsius-two degrees below the normal-and 0.8 degree Celsius-one notch below the normal.
In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 13 degree Celsius and 2.8 degree Celsius respectively on the day.
The Met officers said that the western disturbance-triggered rain might prolong the chill of the winter for some more days.
However, since the third week of this month, the mercury might show upward trend.
