Police Headquarter has handed over investigation to the Special Task Force (STF) of a case in which three policemen seized cash from a property dealer in Dehradun under the pretext of checks and seizures for enforcing election model code of conduct. This high profile case will now be investigated by Circle Officer (CO) STF Kailash Panwar under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) STF Swatantra Kumar.
Director General (DG) (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said, “We have handed over the investigation to the STF. They work independently and are not in any way connected with district police or Garhwal Inspector General Ajay Rautela.”
STF ASP Swatantra Kumar said, “It is too early to say anything about the money or about the accused. We have just received orders about this case today. CO (Dehradun) STF Kailash Panwar will be investigating the case and I will supervise it.”
Sources aver that the property dealer Anurodh Panwar himself is unaware of the exact amount of cash seized from him. According to Panwar, he never checked inside the bag containing the cash.
It is pertinent to mention here that the three accused police men Dinesh Negi, Manoj and Himanshu Upadhyay have been suspended from active duty. According to Dehradun Senior Superintendant of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti, the accused policemen not only used the SUV of Garhwal IG, but sub inspector Negi also posed as the IG. This incident happened on the night of April 4 but came to light some days later when Panwar went to Income tax department and district police to ask about the seized money.
