Flowers from choppers on Kanwadias
The state government and district administration are gearing up for Kanwad Mela starting later this month. A meeting was chaired by state Tourism and Culture minister, in-charge of Haridwar district, Satpal Maharaj to review preparations. The highlight of this year’s Kanwad Mela would be flowers being showered on Kanwadias from helicopter as was done in the past in Uttar Pradesh, said Maharaj.
He said that the hill bypass road will be opened on the peak days during the Kanwad Mela. He said that ample light will be arranged on Kanwad Patri Marg with generators to facilitate uninterrupted power supply during the fair. Mobile toilets must be arranged on the said route.
The Kanwadias will be asked to bring copper or steel containers for Ganga water instead of using plastic cans, he said. He said even during departmental meetings drinking water shall be served in glass bottles and glasses instead of plastic bottles.
Regarding health facilities, he gave directions to the district health authorities to make temporary medical camps and makeshift hospital with electricity supply, medicines and medical staff. During the discussion with department officials, the minister said that cleanliness must be maintained on the Ganga Ghats at Har Ki Paidi and polythene usage must be banned completely during the fair. He also directed the officials to maintain quality of food products on sale and ensure that vendors display rate list.
He expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace of work on the widening of national highway.
Later, the district magistrate Deependra Chaudhry also held a meeting to review preparations. He directed departmental officials concerned to work in coordination.
