150 packets of food are being prepared daily in the university.
The faculty members, officers and employees of the Doon University here have come forward to provide food to the poor facing problem due to the lockdown enforced to prevent spread of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) . Packets of the cooked food are distributed to the daily wage earners, labourer and poor by the university staff with the help of Municipal Corporation and the police. The dean student welfare of the university, H C Purohit told The Pioneer that 150 packets of food are being prepared daily in the university. “The mess of the university is closed but the university family has decided to provide food to the poor who are facing problem due to lock-down. We are making sure that the nutrient rich food is provided to the poor. Proper hygiene is being maintained while cooking, packing and distributing food. We are also following the concept of social distancing during this work,’’ he said. The assistant registrar of the University, Narendra Lal said that the number of food packets would be increased if required and added that the service would continue till end of the lock-down period.
The Raipur MLA, Umesh Sharma Kau and the senior officers of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) have visited the site in the university where the food is being cooked and packed and lauded the effort of the staff .
