Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, true son of mother India: Governor
The Governor of Uttarakhand Baby Rani Maurya has said that Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was true son of mother India and he has remained an inspiration for people of India even after so many years of his death. She was speaking at a lecture series organised to commemorate 118 birth anniversary of Mukherjee at Raj Bhawan on Saturday. The Governor of Meghalaya Tathagata Roy, President of Dr Mukherjee Smriti Peeth, Tarun Vijay and Vice Presdent Naresh Bansal were also present on the occasion.
Paying rich tributes to Mukherjee, the Uttarakhand Governor said that he would always be remembered as a true nationalist and patriot. She said that the late leader cannot be confined in the narrow boundaries of political parties as he had laid down his life for the nation.
She said that Mukherjee like Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel played a pivotal role in ensuring that Bengal, Punjab and large parts of Kashmir are integral part of India today. Remembering the speech of Mukherjee which he gave in parliament, the Uttarakhand governor said that in this speech he had laid emphasis on national unity. “He was a great educationist and always tried to ensure that the Indian languages are given priority over English. He also promoted girl education. Dr Mukherjee clearly believed that the youth and society should get direct benefit by the medium of education.
Today we are talking about making the curriculum of universities in accordance with needs of the industry but Dr Mukherjee started thinking about it 90 years ago and had opened a separate department of applied chemistry,’’ she said.
Maurya further added that Dr Mukherjee firmly believed that by adopting an education which includes philosophy and science, India can move forward. She said that his personality was a rare mixture of spirituality, patience, human values and scientific temperament and his values and principles are still relevant for youth.
The Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy said that Dr Mukherjee was bestowed with a multidimensional personality and he became the youngest Vice Chancellor. Dr Mukherjee was the first minister for industries of India and he fought for Kashmir.
The convenor of the programme, Tarun Vijay also spoke about life of Mukherjee and the values he stood for.
The Vice Chancellors of universities, Principal of colleges, teachers and students were present on the occasion.
