The State Government now gearing up to make the three-day Tehri Lake Festival slated to start on May 25 a huge success with eyes focused on turning it into a tourist hotspot, the MLA Tehri Dhan Singh Negi said while addressing a media conference on Saturday that aside from a Laser show, a string of programmes would be held in course of the three-day festival to depict the history and culture of Tehri besides presenting the traditional Uttarakhand delicacies for the tourists.
He said that the programmes would start in the morning and they would continue till midnight. “We hope that both the tourists and the locals would attend the programmes in large number. The Laser show would highlight the history and the culture of the place. Besides, several programmes have been lined up to enlighten the people on the special importance of Tehri as a region endowed with historical/cultural legacies. And of course, there would be stalls which would present the state’s traditional food,” he said.
He further said that the festival would go a long way in helping the
Tehri lake- stretching to close to 42 kms- in getting international and national eminence. “We would use the social media platforms in full to take the programmes to the people, far and near. The state Government has released a fund of Rs 1200 crore for the programmes,” he said.
Highlighting the works now underway to develop it as a popular tourist spot, Negi said that many facilities are being developed to attract more and more tourists in the coming days. “We are also going the whole hog to bring the foreign investors. If it happens it would definite boost development of the place through generation of employment opportunities for the local youths,” he said.
The lawmaker further mentioned the construction of ropeway for which the survey work has already been completed. “The Centre has provided Rs 20 lakh for the preservation of the heritage of the place. With that objective in view, Ganga Museum is being built up now,” he said, adding that the State Government is alert to ensure that proper facilities are provided by the hotels to the tourists without overcharging them in any respect.
Speaking on the occasion, the district magistrate Sonika said that they are leaving no stone unturned to make the festival a memorable one in all respects. “We are using the media and the social platforms to reach out to the people far and near about the festival to ensure a good tourist turnout. Besides, posters would be pasted at the airports, bus stations and the like across the country,” she said.
