Police lodge FIR against ex-BJP gen secy Sanjay Kumar
The police lodged a case against the former Bharatiya Janata Party State general secretary (organisation) Sanjay Kumar, late on Saturday night regarding allegations of sexual exploitation and threats. A case was lodged against him under sections 294, 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal after the woman who had accused him of sexual harassment and threats gave her statement to the police on Saturday.
It will be recalled that earlier, about a month and a half ago, a woman associated with the BJP had accused Kumar of sexual and mental harassment. Shortly after that he was relieved of his post as the party’s state general secretary. The woman who had levelled the allegations had earlier not recorded her statement with the police. However, she did so on Saturday. Based on this, a case was lodged against Kumar. The police director general (Law and Order/CID/Prosecution) Ashok Kumar said that an FIR had been registered in the case. Necessary process is underway as per the law and in the future action would be taken as per the legal requirements. While the BJP had stated in the beginning of the controversy that the law would take its course, the Congress has continued to level allegations at the ruling party. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Garima Dasauni alleged that the video clip of the BJP Mahanagar head Vinay Goyal going viral on the social media exposes the party. She said that in the clip, Goyal talks of aspects which “expose” the character and actions of the party.
