A team of Health Department raided Tyagi Diagnostic Centre at Araghar on Thursday and busted a gang involved in sex determination of unborn babies.
A team comprising enforcing officials of Pre Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act from Haryana and Uttarakhand apprehended the owner of the diagnostic centre Dr Pramod Tyagi while he was performing ultra sound of a decoy customer sent by the PCPNDT team of health department of Ambala district of Haryana.
The team sealed two Ultra sound units from the centre. Interestingly, the diagnostic centre was seized by the health department in the year 2014 following similar complaints. The team also confiscated Rs 22000 from the possession of radiologist which he had taken from the decoy customer.
Dr Tyagi was part of a group which used to operate from Haryana from where the brokers used to strike deal with couples eager to know the sex of their baby in womb.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr YS Thapliyal told The Pioneer that an FIR against Dr Tyagi would be lodged by the department. He said that the diagnostic centre was working clandestinely as the machine was sealed; Dr Tyagi was using two unregistered machines to perform pre natal sex determination.
The raid was planned and executed to perfection by the PCPNDT team of Haryana. However the district health authorities and police of Dehradun were unaware about the activity of the Dr Tyagi in a busy market of the city. He , further, said that the administration has done in larger public interest.
They district health department was informed by the team of Haryana when they had successful trapped the Doctor. The CMO said that the health department teams have been asked to remain vigilant about activities of such diagnostic centre working clandestinely in the heinous crime of pre natal sex determination.
