Senior citizens can send others to procure ration: DSO
In order to prevent any trouble to the senior citizens of the Dehradun district who are unable to go to fair price shops to buy monthly ration due to certain reasons, the district supply department stated that such citizens can send someone else to receive the ration on their behalf as per their convenience. However, the copies of the documents like Aadhaar card and ration card of the chosen person besides an application should be submitted to the dealer of fair price shop by the senior citizens, said the Dehradun district supply officer (DSO), Jaswant Singh Kandari. He informed that about 10,000 senior citizens use ration cards in the district and to ensure that they receive the issued ration properly every month, they can send any person from their family to get the ration. If anyone from the family is not available, they can choose any reliable individual who can get ration from their behalf but it is important to deposit the required documents to their fair price shop dealer, added Kandari.
Meanwhile, many citizens have complained several times regarding the locals with steady income who are in possession of those ration cards which are meant to benefit the low income families of Dehradun to get a subsidised monthly ration. Regarding this, the district administration had asked those families to surrender the ration cards who earn more than the amount set to be eligible to become a beneficiary of subsidised ration. Kandari said that so far, more than 40 such ration cards have been surrendered by people and more people will possibly continue to do the same. One can surrender yellow ration card or white ration card which are meant for low income families to the dealers of the fair price shops and can begin to apply to get the new ration card as per their category, informed Kandari. He said that if anyone is found to be in possession of such ration cards which are not issued as per the standards of the beneficiaries, the administration will take action against them.
