Shopkeepers in Dehradun have mixed views on the stock of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books for the students. Some shopkeepers stated that the stock of books this time is full and no parent has to wait for any of the books. However, some state that availability of science and mathematics books, especially for students of classes VI to X is a bit limited and may likely be easily available by April 10.
Gaurav Goel a shopkeeper near Dispensary Road said, “The NCERT books stock last year was less compared to this year. However, there is a shortage of maths books from class VIII to X which remains the problem. But the stock of these books is likely to get full by April 10.”
Another shopkeeper near Dispensary Road, Rajiv Anand said, “There is always a shortage of NCERT books, this year’s its mathematics and science books. The parents coming here are buying the full set barring two subjects as we are unable to provide mathematics and science books.”
Om Kashyap another seller said, “We have a full stock of books and there is no such problem. All the books are available and we are meeting the demand of the public.”
Another book store owner Harish Kumar Ratra said, “There is no problem this time. We have a full stock of all the NCERT books. No parent has to wait for books. We are able to manage a long queue of customers in time without any problem. Obviously, the stock of some of the books gets finished early, however, the stock we are getting has no such shortage of any specific book.”
It is pertinent to mention that last year state government ordered the use of NCERT books in all schools except ICSE board schools in Uttarakhand after which availability of the books in the market remained an issue for a considerable period of time.
