Schoolgirl run over by dumper, angry crowd protests on road
In a road accident on Thursday a 15-year-old girl was killed while going to school on Shimla Bypass road at Badowala. She was run over by a dumper being driven at speed. Her death elicited a strong reaction from angry locals who alongwith her family members gathered at the crime scene.
The driver of the dumper ran away from the scene after the mishap. The angry locals placed the body of the girl on the road and demanded the immediate arrest of the driver.
The district police succeeded in detaining the driver after some time, however while taking him to the police station, angry mob their tried to pull him out of the police jeep and thrashed him.
The protest and resulting traffic jam continued for hours before the Police personnel managed to calm people down. Some of the protesters also pelted stones on the dumper resulting in a scuffle with the police trying to prevent such disorder.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti said, “The driver has been detained. We are checking the CCTV footage. Also a demand for a check post is there to better monitor vehicular movement for which Circle Officer has been asked to survey the area.”
Patelnagar Station House Officer Surya Bhushan Negi said, “The said dumper was coming from Nayagaon to Badowala. The driver has been detained. The investigation is ongoing.” A family friend of the victim’s family said, “Her uncle went to drop her to the school. While she was crossing, the dumper came suddenly at speed and hit her. The dumper should not have been operating at this time.”
According to the information provided by the police the girl Mansi Bisht was XIth class student in New Era Academy.
