Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has wished to be the brand ambassador of the northern States in their fight against the menace of drugs. To fight substance abuse, rampant particularly among the youngsters, six north Indian States-Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the Union Territory (UT) of Chandigarh- have recently joined hands.
The Chief Mminister Trivendra Singh Rawat disclosed here on Saturday that Sanjay Dutt has expressed his desire to be the brand ambassador for the united fight of the north Indian States against substance abuse.
The readiness of the movie star to become the brand ambassador of the States in their crusade against drugs has assumed significance since he himself had been a drug addict during his younger days. He showed remarkable grit and determination and came out of the dark world of drugs to become a very successful movie star.
The Chief Ministers of these northern States had met in Chandigarh recently during ‘Regional Conference on drugs-challenges and strategies’ and unanimously decided to set up a common secretariat at Panchkula to fight together the substance abuse. The secretariat would act as the nodal point for data and information sharing, crucial for joint action. The CMs of these States have also decided to meet at least once in six months to monitor the progress of the joint action against drugs. These States would also appoint nodal officer in their States to coordinate the information sharing process and joint action. These nodal officers would also meet once in three months to streamline the process being followed against substance abuse.
