While appealing for the people to cast their votes, members of the religious fraternity in Haridwar cast their vote during the morning hours on Thursday. The Sadhus of Juna and other Akhadas showed their inked finger with an air of pride and responsibility towards the nation. Yoga guru Swami Ramdev, his aide Balkrishna, Kali Mandir Peethadheeshwar Kailashanand Brahmachari, Mahant Ravindra Puri and many others cast their vote in the Lok Sabha election.
Ramdev cast his vote along with Acharya Balkrishna and Swami Muktanand at Mahila Vidyalaya in polling booth of Dadubagh in Kankhal. Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Ramdev said, he was not in favour of None Of The Above (NOTA). One must cast one’s vote in favour of candidate one considers the best. Appreciating the character of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he also opined that one must not cast vote for those who have deceived the country. He also said that one must not cast vote on the basis of caste or religion but in the interests of the nation. He said through elections, the citizens can remove the lacunae in the democratic system of government which percolate after a period of time so one must exercise the right to vote. “I myself have cast vote today to do justice with our democratic system,” he added.
Members of the religious fraternity in large numbers from the Panchayati Dashnam Juna Akhada cast their vote under the leadership of national secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, Mahant Hari Giri. On the occasion, Hari Giri said that casting vote was the national responsibility of citizens. He said the members of religious fraternity will roam across the country and appeal to the citizens to exercise their franchise for electing their representative. He further said that for this festival of democracy the Sadhus would step out from their confinements and spread the message to the people.
