Rispana & Bindal to be rejuvenated, riverfront development on lines of Sabarmati
State signs MoU with SRFDCL for project
The State Government came a step closer to rejuvenation of the Rispana and Bindal rivers in Dehradun with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Sabarmati River Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) on Wednesday. The MoU for technical support from SRFDCL was signed by its executive director RK Mehta and MDDA vice chairman Ashish Kumar Srivastav in the presence of chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and SRFDCL chairman Keshav Verma.
Both these rivers will be rejuvenated and developed on the lines of Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). Besides developing the housing and non-housing areas, beautification, checking encroachments and ensuring the flow of rivers will be ensured. Rawat said that efforts were on to work on the project for some time now but with technical support of SRFDCL, within two years, both these rivers will be rejuvenated and water flow will be maintained throughout. He said that beautification of the river will add to the beauty of Dehradun and also help in environmental conservation. Speaking on the occasion, Verma termed the river front project as multi-dimensional, adding that by spending Rs 1100 crore on Sabarmati river front development, it is generating revenue worth Rs 3500 crore. The corporation will try to prepare an international level project on 94 hectares land along the Rispana and Bindal rivers.
