Ridhima reaches Haridwar after participating in UN climate summit
Becoming famous overnight and nominated for Alternate Nobel Prize, Greta Thunberg, may have created ripples across the world but small town of Haridwar is no way behind in giving another environment enthusiast from Himgiri Colony who was among the 16 teenagers who participated in the global summit of United Nations in New York a day ago.
Ridhima Pandey of Haridwar reached Haridwar late evening on Thursday along with her parents after participating in the Climate Action Summit.
Ridhima was concerned when the 2013 disaster wreaked havoc in Kedarnath and other parts of the state. She had filed a petition in the National Green Tribunal on the devastating effects of climate change.
The father of the 11-year- old girl Ridhima is linked to forest department. When she had come from Nainital to Haridwar, she was bemused to see lakhs of Kanwadias darting in Haridwar during Kanwad mela. She had studied their effect on climate change. She also marked the changes occurring in different places due to rainfall. She mentioned all these factors while participating in the UN summit on climate change.
Notably, Greta is a Swedish teenager who has focused on the risks posed by climate change. Last year, Thunberg took time off school to demonstrate outside the Swedish parliament, holding up a sign calling for stronger climate action.
