The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that former chief minister Harish Rawat staging a dharna for holding winter session of the Assembly at Gairsain is a political gimmick. The BJP has stated that the decision to hold the winter session of the Assembly in Dehradun was a collective decision which was accorded approval by the Congress and leader of opposition. The protest being undertaken by the Congress regarding THDC is also baseless.
The BJP State media in-charge Devendra Bhasin expressed surprise at the statements being made by the former chief minister and his plans for a dharna. He said that this also against the Congress and its leader in the Assembly. “The decision to hold the assembly session in Dehradun was not taken by the chief minister or the BJP alone, because the Congress was also involved in it. The leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh also gave her assent to this decision. Considering this, the statements of the ex-CM are against his own party and its leaders. This clearly shows the the Congress is badly scattered and its leaders are so desperate to regain their lost ground that they are resorting to such actions to dupe the public,” said Bhasin.
He further said that considering the winter, the infrastructure at Gairsain is inadequate. It is not just a question of the ministers and MLAs staying there because a large number of officials, employees, security personnel, drivers and others also have to go to Gairsain when the assembly session is held there. The government has to take care of everyone.
He further alleged that the protest on the THDC disinvestment being undertaken by a faction of Congress is also an attempt to misguide the public because the Union Government is selling its shares in THDC to its own large undertaking- NTPC. Far from damaging the interests of Uttarakhand, this decision will prove beneficial and the employees will also ultimately benefit.
