Seeks Rs 5,000 crore one time grant for 2021 Kumbh Mela
Meeting the Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat sought Rs 5,000 crore one time grant from the Government of India for the 2021 Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar.
Rawat told Sitharaman that more than 15 crore people from across India and abroad are expected to visit Haridwar during the Kumbh Mela in 2021.
For ensuring successful organisation of the Kumbh Mela, it is essential to expand infrastructural services and facilities especially housing, transport, health, sanitation and security.
The departments concerned have provided proposals amounting to about Rs 5,000 crore for development of infrastructural services and facilities. It is important for all permanent and temporary works to be completed by October 2020. Considering the limited financial resources of the state, the Union government should approve the one time gran as early as possible, he said.
The Union Finance minister assured the CM that the Central Government will provide all possible assistance to the State for the 2021 Kumbh Mela.
