Inaugurating the ninth plenary session of Indian Journalists Union, Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev said that in this competitive age, journalists and writers must keep themselves updated and act as dictionary – repository of information.
Nearly 300 journalists from across the country are participating in this three day long session which kicked off on Friday at Patanjali Yogpeeth.
KB Pandit of Haryana Patrakar Sangh was elected as president of the union for this year and Murugesh Shivpuji was elected as general secretary of the union.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramdev said that it may seem that electronic media is excelling and overpowering print media in the current times but authenticity of print media is still much accepted worldwide. He further said that three limbs of democracy- legislature, judiciary and the executive may stray away from their path but if media is steadfast, then democracy can never be under threat. Speaking on the occasion, delegate Pawan Bansal said that when one party wins in democracy with complete majority and the opposition becomes suppressed, the role of media becomes all the more crucial.
The media acts as a mirror to the ruling power in the country in such a situation. The president of IJU Uttarakhand chapter Anant Mittal thanked the Yoga Guru and his management for hosting the session.
