The rainy and snow spell which has taken Uttarakhand in its grip is likely to continue for some more days, says the regional Metrological centre. As per the forecast, very light to light rain and snowfall would occur at various places across Uttarakhand on Monday. Some isolated places, especially in Kumaon region like Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nanital, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar districts, are likely to experience snow and rainfall on Monday. Mist and shallow fog are likely to occur in some parts of the plains, especially in Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar districts. For Dehradun, the sky is going to be clear while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle at around 20 degree Celsius and 5 degree Celsius respectively on the day.
On Sunday, various places like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamnotri received snowfall while some other places in Uttarakhand received rainfall. Dehradun too recorded drizzling and overcast sky on the day.
The maximum and minimum temperature recorded at various parts of Uttarakhand on Sunday was 16.9 degree Celsius and 8.8 degree Celsius in Dehradun, 22 degree Celsius and 5 degree Celsius in Pantnagar, 6.8 degree Celsius and 1 degree Celsius in Mukteshwar and 9 degree Celsius and 3 degree Celsius in New Tehri respectively.
Rawat directs measures in view of cold wave
In view of the cold wave following rains and snowfall in the state, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has asked all the District Magistrates to ensure all necessary arrangements to provide relief to the public. Rawat has also asked the DMs to be alert in view of the weather forecast made by the meteorological department.
Rawat has asked the District Magistrates to provide bonfires at road crossings, public places, railway stations, bus stands and also to ensure that places like Rain Baserasfor the homeless are adequately warmed.
The CM has also expected help in this matter from the Mayors and chairpersons of municipalities and other civic bodies. He also asked the officials of the local civic bodies to make arrangements for the poor for them to face the cold wave. Rawat also instructed that warm clothes, quilts and blankets be distributed to the poor people as per their requirements. He also strictly directed officials to ensure that nobody is put to trouble due to cold wave conditions and rains in the state. The Chief Minister also instructed both the Garhwal and Kumaon commissioners to ensure adequate arrangements in this regard.
